In 1986, Chris was stationed in Germany with the US Army. He was very interested in heraldry. He hired an official German heralder, named Karl Haas, to design a coat of arms for the Mayer family. Herr Haas first researched to see if the family had a coat of arms, which it did not. Then he designed an arms using devices and colors significant to the family. The arms were registered in the official German Roll of Arms: Deutsche Wappenrolle on 10 March 1987 in the name of Friedrich Mayer (1844-1896), Chris’ last ancestor to live his life in Germany. All of Friedrich Mayer’s descendants are entitled to these arms.
